Teach yourself more quality of movement through the Feldenkrais method

My Dance Smart System builds on the Feldenkrais method. This method teaches you a more optimal body useage. It procedes in a very practical manner: You move in a relaxing atmosphere where you can focus solely on yourself. Through verbal guidance you receive the opporunity to explore which habits you have with your movements and how you could change those. The decision, if you do that, is up to you. During this process occur highly welcome side effects: e.g. tensions and often pains might get relieved and the general well being is strengthened. These are good conditions for the nervous system to learn.

Achieve more quality through slow movements.

“Slow down to dance better”

“The biggest problem for our speed lies between our ears.” We impair ourselves, because we want something with everything we have got and exert ourselves way too much. We want certain movements to look “quick” and think, if we exert ourselves to quicken them, we would reach our goal. But what would it be like to let things “happen” and let go at the right moment? We learn that this is often the much simpler but also better solution for creating speed. In order for this to work, we have to recognize what the right time is for the respective movement sequence. We can learn this through movement exercises using the Feldenkrais method.

What is right? What is wrong?

In dance sport, learning the technique is a significant part of the training. There is right and wrong here. The Feldenkrais method can help to facilitate the requirements for learning dance sport techniques. Dance-Smart represents a precision of the Feldenkrais method for dance sports.

With the help of the Feldenkrais method we learn how the body is designed to move. There is no right or wrong in this research activity. Improvement occurs “automatically” through attentive sensing of differences. An important question for myself is: What can I do to make natural movement processes easier for me?
